Defying Odds: Sridevi Dumpa's Remarkable Journey to Empowerment
Dr. Sridevi Dumpa embarked on matrimony at the tender age of 16, a decidedly unorthodox decision that ushered in an array of challenges. Yet, her resolute determination emerged victorious in the face of adversity. Assuming the role of a youthful mother bereft of assistance, she steadfastly committed herself to enhancing not only her own life but also the lives of others. With unwavering dedication, Sridevi selflessly educated underprivileged children for well over a decade, thus acquiring profound insights into prevailing health issues. This profound experience served as the catalyst for the establishment of the Abhigna Bharat Organization (ABO), a benevolent institution dedicated to alleviating the hardships of many.
From Idea to Impact: ABO's Vision Taking Shape
On a scorching day in Andhra Pradesh, Sridevi Dumpa, driving through the countryside, observed about twenty women aged 25 to 40 toiling under the blazing sun. Amidst them, two mothers sheltering beneath a grand tree while feeding their infants caught her eye. Filled with profound empathy, Sridevi halted her car to provide sustenance and relief for these hardworking women. Inquiring about their relentless labor, she discovered they had first attended to household chores before heading to the fields. Engaging with the mothers, she learned of their hardships – one widowed, the other struggling to find work, both driven by financial necessity. Illiteracy prevailed among them, and their children, save for one, lacked access to formal education. Sridevi’s heart swelled with both sorrow and determination as she recognized the urgency of change. She pondered, “This is not the path to India’s progress.” At that moment, the seed of the Abhigna Bharat Organization (ABO) was sown.
Dr. Sridevi Dumpa also talked to the moms who were feeding their babies. They shared their stories – one had lost her husband, and the other couldn’t find a job. They needed money, so they risked the heat to work. None of them had a chance to learn how to read or write. The children, except one, didn’t go to school.
This made Sridevi sad and determined at the same time. She knew things needed to change. She thought, “This isn’t how India can move forward.” So, she decided to do something about it. Right then, the idea of ABO (Abhigna Bharat Organization) was born.
Walking the Path of Empowerment
Recognizing the paramount significance of enhancing women’s quality of life, Dr. Sridevi Dumpa grasped the pivotal role of knowledge. She discerned that to effect change, she must first equip herself with wisdom. Thus, she resolved to embark on a legal education journey, culminating in her completion of the LLB program, subsequent attainment of an LLM degree, and the crowning achievement of a PhD. Her relentless pursuit of academic excellence showcased her unwavering determination. After completing her studies, she initiated ABO, aiming to empower women through rights, education, healthcare, and nutrition. ABO now conducts healthcare programs, camps, and awareness events, reaching thousands of women and families in a short time, achieving significant progress in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
